Vantage overview

Vantage is a contract-for-difference broker with roots in Australia that has grown into a multi-region brand. Clients trade price movements in currencies, stock indices, commodities, individual shares, ETFs and government bonds without taking ownership of anything: each position is a cash-settled agreement with the broker's relevant entity.

Structurally, Vantage looks less like a single firm and more like a family of licensed companies sharing branding, technology and pricing philosophy. That has a practical consequence worth internalising before you compare any number on this page: leverage ceilings, eligible instruments, compensation arrangements and dispute-resolution routes are set by the entity you sign with, not by the brand. Conditions may vary depending on the Vantage entity, country of residence, account type and current product availability.

Its commercial angle is optionality. Rather than pushing one proprietary terminal, Vantage keeps MetaTrader in the mix, adds its own app, offers browser access, plugs into TradingView and folds copy trading into the same login. For traders who already know how they want to work, that removes friction. For traders who do not, it can just as easily postpone the harder decision about strategy and risk limits.

Availability notice: nothing described here is offered on identical terms worldwide. Some countries are excluded from the brand altogether, and elsewhere individual products such as crypto CFDs, share CFDs or swap-free accounts may be withheld. Vantage runs its own eligibility checks at registration; treat this page as research, not as confirmation that you can open an account.

Conditions differ by the legal entity you are onboarded to and by your country of residence. Leverage caps, investor protection and available products are set per entity — confirm the terms for your own account before funding it.

Vantage is best understood as a platform and pricing toolkit rather than a single fixed offering. The combination of MetaTrader, an in-house app, browser trading and TradingView connectivity covers most workflows, and the split between Standard STP and Raw ECN pricing is easy to model before you fund. The decisive question is which Vantage entity onboards you, because that determines leverage, product access and the protections attached to your account.

Section 05

Vantage fees & trading costs

Advertised pricing from 0.0 pips (Raw ECN) and from around 1.0 pips (Standard STP) describes the best case in the deepest liquidity, not an average. Spreads widen around high-impact releases, at the daily rollover and outside the London–New York overlap, so the number that matters is the one you are quoted at the hours you actually trade.

On the raw tier, commission is charged in both directions: from about $3 per standard lot per side, so roughly $6 per round turn in a USD account. Convert that into pips for the instrument you trade and add it to the spread — otherwise a zero-spread account can quietly cost more than a spread-inclusive one.

Before you fund anything, price in: the spread you are actually quoted on your pairs at the hours you trade, not the marketing floor; commission per lot per side on the Raw ECN tier, doubled for a round turn; overnight swap or financing on positions held past the daily rollover; conversion cost when your instrument is denominated in a currency other than your account's; funding and withdrawal charges attached to your specific payment method; any inactivity or administration fee, including on swap-free accounts; and the margin requirement and leverage ceiling your entity applies, which sets your liquidation point.

Leverage is capped for retail clients under the ASIC and FCA entities, while higher ceilings may apply through offshore entities. Higher ceilings advertised offshore do not apply to accounts opened under the tier-one-regulated entities.

Section 07

Is Vantage regulated?

Vantage operates under licences from ASIC, FCA, FSCA, VFSC and CIMA. These licences are not equivalent: which entity holds your account decides your leverage cap and the protections you can actually rely on. Vantage UK is FCA-regulated with restricted retail leverage and FCA retail protections; Vantage Australia is ASIC-regulated with restricted retail leverage and ASIC retail protections; Vantage International serves eligible international clients through the relevant offshore regulator, where leverage may be higher and protections are different.

Verify the licence number on the regulator's own public register and confirm which legal entity your account agreement names — group websites often list several. Headline leverage figures in marketing material generally reflect the offshore entities rather than the ASIC- or FCA-regulated ones.

Availability is not universal. Some countries are excluded outright, and in others a particular product — share CFDs, crypto CFDs, high leverage or swap-free accounts — may be withheld even though an account can be opened. Conditions may vary depending on the Vantage entity, country of residence, account type and current product availability.

Section 08

Opening a Vantage account

Standard STP folds the broker's cost into the quoted spread, so you see one number and pay no separate forex commission — simpler to reason about, and usually the better fit for lower-frequency trading. Raw ECN quotes a much tighter spread and charges commission per lot per side instead, which rewards volume and punishes small, infrequent trades. A demo account is useful for learning the terminal and testing automation, but it flatters execution: slippage, partial fills and the psychology of real money are all absent. A swap-free structure is available in some regions on request; check what replaces the swap charge on long-held positions, since an administration fee is a common substitute.

The published entry point on the main live tiers is around $50, which is low by industry standards, though individual payment methods, currency conversions and specialist tiers can impose a higher practical floor. Account availability, minimums and permitted instruments differ by entity, and conditions may vary depending on the Vantage entity, country of residence, account type and current product availability.

Vantage platforms

Vantage does not push a single proprietary terminal. MetaTrader 4 is the most widely supported retail terminal, with a very large library of third-party indicators and automated strategies — confirm your tier is provisioned for MT4 and that your tooling loads on the build offered. MetaTrader 5 adds more timeframes, a deeper order-type set and better handling of non-forex instruments; check which instruments are actually enabled on MT5 for your entity. The Vantage app is the broker's own mobile environment, where account management, funding and copy trading sit alongside charts — check whether the copy-trading module is switched on in your region. The web trader gives browser access with no install, useful on locked-down or shared machines, though some order and charting features are trimmed compared with the desktop terminals. TradingView connectivity lets you keep TradingView charting and screening while routing orders to the trading account, where the integration covers your account tier and instrument list.

Copy and social trading is built into the Vantage app rather than supplied by a third-party bolt-on. You browse strategy providers, review their published statistics, allocate an amount and have their positions mirrored into your account automatically, so funding and monitoring stay in one place.

What it does not do is reduce risk. You are still fully exposed to the market, and now also to a stranger's discipline. Before allocating, look past the headline return to the drawdown, how long the record runs, whether it survived a genuinely volatile period, and how much leverage produced it. Then set your own maximum loss and enforce it. Expect divergence too: differences in execution timing, account currency, allocation size and available margin mean your result will not exactly match the provider's published figures.

Forex covers majors, minors and a range of crosses and exotics, which is where the tightest pricing and deepest liquidity sit. Indices are cash and futures-based CFDs on the main US, European and Asia-Pacific benchmarks. Commodities span metals, energy and a selection of soft and agricultural contracts. Share CFDs give single-name equity exposure without owning the shares — no voting rights or settled dividends, and restricted in several jurisdictions. ETF CFDs cover sector, regional and thematic baskets traded as CFDs rather than held outright. Bond CFDs offer rate exposure through government bond contracts, useful as a macro hedge. Crypto CFDs provide digital-asset price exposure where permitted; they are withheld entirely in a number of countries and often margined more conservatively.

Overview

Editorial notes

Who is it for

Vantage may suit traders committed to MetaTrader, because indicators, templates and expert advisors written for MT4 or MT5 keep working while you gain raw-spread pricing. It also suits cost-sensitive active traders: above a certain monthly volume, a tight raw spread plus a fixed commission usually beats an all-in spread, which is exactly the arithmetic the Raw ECN tier exists for.

TradingView-first chartists can keep screening, drawing and planning in TradingView and route orders from it where the integration is enabled. Traders researching copy trading get provider discovery, allocation and monitoring inside the broker's own app — provided they accept that copying multiplies rather than removes risk. A roughly $50 entry point plus a demo account also makes it cheap to verify execution before committing real size, and indices, metals, energy, bonds and shares under one login let a macro view be expressed several ways without opening more accounts.

Consider looking elsewhere if you want to own assets outright (CFDs give no shareholding, no voting rights and no settled dividends); if you are looking for predictable income or capital preservation, because leveraged trading is neither; if you want someone to tell you what to trade, since Vantage executes orders and FXSpreadMeter publishes research and neither provides personal advice; if you need the specific protections of one home regulator and are not prepared to check which entity would hold your account; if you expect copy trading to substitute for understanding position sizing and stop placement; or if you trade rarely and in small size, where a commission-based tier adds cost rather than saving it.

Editorial notes

Regulation & safety

Editorial notes

Leverage is capped for retail clients under the ASIC and FCA entities, while higher ceilings may apply through offshore entities. Higher ceilings advertised offshore do not apply to accounts opened under the tier-one-regulated entities.

Editorial notes

Support & education

Support is assessed on channel availability, published hours, language coverage and the response times we sampled, and Vantage scores solidly rather than exceptionally on that basis.

Public feedback on any broker skews towards the extremes: traders who withdrew successfully and traders who lost money rarely describe the same firm. Read a spread of recent reviews, weight the ones that describe a verifiable process — verification times, withdrawal handling, support responsiveness — and discount those that simply blame the broker for a losing position.

Editorial notes

Verdict

Our reading: Vantage is a strong technical package with an ordinary amount of hand-holding. If you arrive knowing your platform, your instruments and your maximum acceptable loss, the pricing choice and platform breadth are genuinely useful. If you arrive hoping the tooling will supply a strategy, the same breadth becomes noise. The single most consequential decision is not which tier to open but which entity ends up holding your account.

Trading risks you should price in: CFDs are leveraged derivatives, so you never own the underlying instrument and adverse moves are realised against your balance quickly. Leverage cuts both ways — the same margin that lets a small deposit control a large position magnifies the loss. Gaps, weekend risk and thin liquidity around data releases can fill a stop far from where you placed it, and whether negative balances are written off depends on the entity holding your account. Copy trading does not neutralise risk: following someone else replaces your judgement with theirs while you still carry the full market loss, plus execution and sizing differences. Past performance proves nothing about the future, your jurisdiction changes the deal, and only the broker's current terms are binding — read the live product disclosure, fee schedule and client agreement before you fund an account.

Trade only with money you can afford to lose, and seek independent professional advice where your circumstances warrant it. FXSpreadMeter may be paid a referral fee if you open an account with Vantage through a link on this page; that payment comes from the broker's marketing budget and does not change the pricing or terms you receive. FXSpreadMeter is not a broker: we do not hold client money, give personal investment advice or make account-opening decisions on Vantage's behalf.

Editorial notes

Fees

Vantage charges no separate forex commission on standard stp; from about $3 per standard lot per side ($6 per round turn) on raw ecn in a usd account. Quoted pricing starts from 0.0 pips (raw ecn); from around 1.0 pips (standard stp), so the true cost of a round turn depends on which account tier you open.

Non-trading costs matter as much as spread: check inactivity charges, withdrawal fees and currency-conversion margins on the broker's own fee schedule, since these differ by entity and funding method.

Editorial notes

Spreads

Headline pricing is from 0.0 pips (Raw ECN); from around 1.0 pips (Standard STP). Spreads widen around high-impact data releases and outside the London and New York overlap, so treat any advertised figure as a floor rather than an average.

Vantage pros and cons

Vantage pros

  • Six routes into the same account group: MT4, MT5, the Vantage app, browser trading, TradingView connectivity and in-app copy trading
  • A clean pricing choice between spread-inclusive Standard STP and commission-based Raw ECN, which makes cost modelling straightforward
  • Copy trading sits inside the broker's own app rather than being outsourced to a separate social platform
  • A published entry point in the region of $50 on both main live tiers, so the offering can be tested cheaply
  • Coverage stretches past forex into indices, commodities, shares, ETFs and bonds, so a macro view can be expressed in one place

Vantage cons

  • Several legal entities operate under one brand, and the protections you receive depend entirely on which one onboards you
  • Headline leverage figures in marketing material generally reflect the offshore entities, not the ASIC- or FCA-regulated ones
  • Crypto CFDs, share CFDs and swap-free structures are unavailable or restricted in a number of countries
  • Raw ECN pricing only pays off above a certain trade frequency and size; below it the commission erodes the tighter spread
  • Platform breadth can be a distraction — running five interfaces poorly is worse than running one well

FP Markets pairs raw-spread FX pricing with direct-market-access share dealing, so cost-sensitive traders and multi-asset investors can work from one account group. Five platform choices, ASIC oversight and no minimum deposit make it our strongest all-round pick this quarter.
