Forum rules & how to spot scam brokers and "fund recovery" scams
Forex attracts scammers because the money moves fast and many newcomers do not yet know what normal looks like. This topic sums up our rules and the warning signs we see most often.
Forum rules
- No promotion of unregulated brokers, "account managers" or investment schemes.
- No selling of signals, bots or paid groups, and no contact details for private messengers.
- No "fund recovery", "account recovery" or "hacker" services. These are almost always a second scam that targets people who have already lost money.
- No personal attacks, harassment or hate. Disagree with ideas, not people.
- One account per person. Accounts used for spam or for promoting scams are banned.
Warning signs of a scam broker
- No verifiable licence. Check the regulator's own public register yourself, not a screenshot or a link the broker sends you. Make sure the company name and website match the register entry.
- Guaranteed returns. No legitimate broker or manager can promise profits.
- Pressure to deposit more before you can withdraw, often described as a "tax", "fee" or "unlock payment".
- Contact through social media or messengers by someone offering to trade for you.
- Withdrawal delays with constantly changing excuses.
Warning signs of a "recovery" scam
After a loss, victims are often contacted by people claiming they can get the money back for an upfront fee. They may pose as lawyers, regulators or blockchain investigators. A real regulator or law-enforcement agency will not ask you to pay a fee to recover funds. If you have been scammed, report it to the police and to the financial regulator in your country.
What to do here
If you see a post that looks like a scam, please use the Report button rather than replying to it. Replies bump the post and help the spammer. Our moderators review every report.
Stay safe, and when in doubt, ask the community before you send money anywhere.
